Okay i downloaded all the neccessary software from; http://home.sol.no/sskoglu/mp3/index.html If youve already got unregistered versions of the software this sit is *definately* worth a visit ;) I encoded a 10 sec 44.1 16 bit stereo wav to mpeg3 at the highest bitrate and quality settings i swear when i played it back i could hear *no* difference (i was using headphones), and to top it off it gave me 5:1 compression! I havent tried it at lower bitrates yet. Could everybody interested try it out and see if they notice any difference, this would be a great way for me (and many others) to archive songs. Oh by the way, using a P150 it took about a 40 secs to encode 10 secs of raw data. kF

1997-01-12 12:51Styrolene vaTI forgot to say! the best bit is when you decode the mpeg3 back to a wav file, it still so

I forgot to say! the best bit is when you decode the mpeg3 back to a wav file, it still sounds exactly the same as the original wav. It gives 5.5:1 compression to be accurate. Im going to compress a 60 meg file, ill let you know how long it took and the results tommorrow. kF
